When the flag fell to a moderate start, How's That and Corunna jumped off on the right in advance of Mallow- in the centre, and these were followed by Tib, Present Times, and Sagitta. In the heels of this lot laid Hambletonian, with Loved One, Volta, and Crafton just behind Mallow, in the centre lying Cardinal Wolsey in their track. To the left were Stourfield, Recluse, Melton, Master Jones, and Mellifont, | while Assignation, who showed temper on going Ito the post, was a long way last. In descending the hill How's That cleared Corunna, and they went on from Tib, Present Times, and Mallow to the corner of the rails, whore Lucerne and Crafton improved their positions, and with plenty of room next the rails Hambletonian's colours began to look a little prominent. On the other hand Melton, Master Jones, and Mellifont were labouring under difficulties, while Cardinal Wolsey was in a bad place, with little chance of improvement. In approaching the distance Lucerne took second position to How's That, and Corunna also gave way in turn to ! Crafton, Tib, Present Times, and Hambletonian, of whom Craftou, after heading Lucerne opposite the stand, rapidly raced" How's That down and won by two lengths ; half as far again dividing second and third, Tib was fourth, the j last three being Volta, the Duchess of Parma j colt, and Mellifont, excepting Assignation, who j gallowed into the crowd, and besides throwing her boy injured' two or three people. They ran thus until half way up the straight, after which Dartmoor retired, and the favourite going on to the end won easily by ' three lengths from Freshwater ; the same distance between second and third. Three or -four unimportant breaks away preceded the start, in which Bird of Freedom jumped off from Theodore, How's That, Raffaello, and Le Caissier, with Loved One next, and Runneymede last, behind Melton and Lonely. In the first quarter of a mile Raffaello drew into second place, Theodore, Le Cassier, and Lisbon going on next from How's That, Cambusmore, Gonfalon, Loved One, and Saraband. Before reaching the top of the hill How's That shot to the head of affairs, and was attended by Le Caissier, Raffaello, Wine Sour, and Theodore until entering the straight, when Le Caissier took close order. The pair then came on from Wine Sour, Bird of Freedom, Theodore, Gonfaloß, Cambusmore, Fullerton, and Kinsky, with Lisbon on the left, having Melton in his track. A little less than half a mile from home Le Caissier dropped away, and How's That was pressed on to the rails by Theodore and Gonfalon, with Saraband waiting at the heels of the leader, and Lisbon, Bird of Freedom, Fullerton, and Melton the most prominent of the remainder. As they approached the distance the weight told upon Melton, and Theodore having died out Gonfalon continued to follow How's That to the commencement rif the stand, when Saraband came through, and soon getting the bettor of How's That won easily by a length and a half, four lengths dividing second and third. Lisbon was fourth. Time, 2min 17sec. The signal was given at the first attempt, and St. Michael cut out the work from Candlemas and Mephisto, side by side, with St. Mirin next and Chelsea last. In this order they travelled for a quarter of a mile, when Candlemas drew up to St. Michael's girths, and they entered the straight three or four lengths in advance of Mephisto, who was as far ahead of St. Mirin and Chelsea. Before enteric g the rails Mephisto pulled his way into close attendance upon the two leaders, who were in trouble at the commencement of the rails. But they managed to struggle on to below the distance, where Mephisto and St. Mirin passed them, but the latter had no sooner collared Mephisto than he j was himself compelled to resign to Chelsea, who woo easily at last by a length and a half, twice

as far separating second and third. Candlemas was fourth. Tamberlik cut out the work from Florentine ' and St. Crispin on the right, with Timothy in the centre, Agnostic and Glide on the left, and the Lady Morgan filly in the rear. They proceeded thus until half way up the rai}s, when Tamberlik dropped back, leaving Florentine and Timothy in front of St. Crispin and Agnostic to below the distance, when the Lady Morgan filly improved her position. But the race was always confined to Florentine and Timothy, and although when Archer called upon the favourite he swerved towards the other, and thereby temporarily lost a slight lead, he was soon set straight again, and won easily by a neck ; two lengths between second and third. The Lady Morgan filly was fourth, St. Crispin fifth, and Tamberlik last. An objection to the winner on the grounds of " boring " was decided in favour of Timothy. Value of the stakes, £2700. The first departures from the front rank were Luciana and Maize, and after entering the rails Pierrepont was attended by Maxim and Diavolo and then came Isosceles and Whittington, to below the distance, when Mamia drew into fourth place on the immediate left of Pierrepont. The latter was in trouble approaching the stand, and with Maxim then assuming»the command Mamia waited until close home, when she made her effort and won cleverly by 'a head, three lengths dividing second and third.
